United by a classical musical background, Mário Laginha and Pedro Burmester followed different career paths — Laginha moving closer to jazz and the exploration and re-creation of diverse world musics, Burmester focusing more on the interpretation of the classical repertoire in its various forms, from solo piano recitals to performances with full orchestral support.
More than 30 years ago, the two pianists brought together their musical inclinations, experiences, and taste for risk, beginning a collaboration rooted in friendship and strong artistic complicity. This resulted in an album (Duetos, 1994), numerous concerts around the world, and, a few years later, participation in the 3 Pianos project with Bernardo Sassetti.
The repertoire of this concert includes works from the duo’s extensive catalogue, as well as songs by Fausto Bordalo Dias, José Afonso, José Mário Branco, and Sérgio Godinho, with arrangements for two pianos by Bernardo Sassetti, João Vasco, and Mário Laginha.
