António Vieira wrote a text, an allegory, that explores relations between cultures, defends human dignity, and denounces corruption and the abuse of power in a timeless discourse that remains strikingly relevant today.
By bringing together the original text and contemporary writings, while preserving Vieira’s allegorical approach and satirical tone, this production revisits themes from the 17th century that continue to resonate across the political, economic, and social spheres of modern society: corruption and the abuse of power. These are issues of enduring relevance and increasing urgency.
With due respect to Father António Vieira, we shall therefore speak to the fish, since the heretics will not listen.
