Prince Tamino is pursued by a giant serpent and takes refuge in the forest, unaware that he has entered the realm of the Queen of the Night.
There, he reaches an agreement with the Queen: in exchange for the hand of her daughter, Pamina, he promises to rescue her from the alleged captivity in which Sarastro is said to be holding her.
Accompanied by the cheerful bird-catcher Papageno, Tamino sets out in search of the young woman. However, upon arriving in Sarastro's kingdom, he discovers that reality is very different from what he had been led to believe. He decides to remain by Pamina's side and join the Temple of Wisdom. To do so, he must undergo and overcome a series of initiatory trials.
In the end, Tamino and Pamina are united forever, while the Queen of the Night is ultimately defeated.
More than three decades ago, Opera 2001 began its journey with The Magic Flute, a work that profoundly shaped its artistic identity.
Today, with the same excitement that accompanied the raising of the curtain for its first performance in Spain, Opera 2001 announces that this production will also mark the conclusion of its activity as an opera producer.
With The Magic Flute, an extraordinary journey comes to an end, made possible through the commitment and dedication of hundreds of professionals. It has been a remarkable path of growth, creativity, and artistic achievement, bringing opera to thousands of spectators across Spain, France, and Portugal.
Opera 2001 wishes to express its sincere gratitude to all the theatres, festivals, and presenters who have placed their trust in the company and supported it throughout these years. Their contribution has been essential in making this story possible.
During this final tour, Opera 2001 hopes to reconnect with as many venues and institutions as possible with whom it has had the privilege of collaborating. The company therefore invites all its partners to include this production in their forthcoming seasons and to share in this very special moment.
This is a new production of The Magic Flute, renewed and meticulously crafted in every detail, conceived as a fitting conclusion to Opera 2001's artistic journey.
Opera 2001's greatest wish is that this work will continue to live on stage and remain in the memory of audiences, celebrating a legacy built over more than three decades.
