In 1991, as China undergoes profound socioeconomic transformations that drive many to leave rural life in search of work in the cities, ten-year-old Chuang, the third child, is forced to remain in the village due to his family’s plans. Against the backdrop of modernization, a family finds itself torn between the weight of tradition and the pull of progress, in an intimate yet sweeping saga that spans four generations, tracing the cycles of life through the changing seasons.
