Between the two world wars, philosopher Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) and his wife Dora (Vanessa Kirby) abandon civilization and move to a remote island in the Galápagos. Their idyllic escape is quickly interrupted by the arrival of other travellers with their own plans, including a couple (Daniel Brühl and Sydney Sweeney) seeking a cure for tuberculosis and a baroness (Ana de Armas) with plans to build a luxury hotel. The coexistence among the inhabitants turns into a struggle for survival as they deal with the island's adversities and each other's conflicting ambitions.
