In the spirit of Easter, the Algarve Orchestra presents a concert of great emotional depth and orchestral beauty, where the sung voice reigns supreme. Two masterpieces of musical literature that speak of earthly finitude and spiritual transcendence, perfect for celebrating the Easter season.
From Gustav Mahler, his fourth symphony, the most intimate and serene of all he wrote, deeply imbued with spirituality and proposing a path from earthly life to life in paradise, featuring a solo voice in the final movement, interpreted by Rafaela Albuquerque, who will sing a melody on which the composer worked for over ten years, always in search of perfect expression.
The concert continues its spiritual and aesthetic journey with the last work in Richard Strauss's catalog, considered by many to be his ultimate musical testament and final farewell. Four Last Songs, titled as if the composer, then 84 years old, knew they would be the final notes to come from his pen, are an arc full of nostalgia and beauty, based on the poetry of Eichendorff and Hesse, in a reflection on the passage of time, concluding with a sunset that signifies the true twilight of life.
This concert takes place following the recent meeting between the three regional orchestras, which reinforced the importance of strategic cooperation and joint work in the Portuguese musical landscape. The partnership between the Algarve Orchestra and the Northern Orchestra, materialized in these concerts, reflects this shared vision: to unite resources, talent and artistic mission to bring excellent music to ever wider audiences, affirming the role of these orchestras as essential agents of public cultural service in Portugal. One of the main works for large symphony orchestra and soprano, which will certainly thrill and move the audience of these concerts.
