A tribute to the acclaimed Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in March 2023, this performance is a video art concert featuring piano, violin, cello, and a strong multimedia component.
This musical trio is one of the few ensembles in the world to perform the work 1996 in concert, interpreting it from the original scores available in a rare and limited edition supervised by Sakamoto himself, on which the composer based two world tours.
The Last Emperor, Babel, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and Wuthering Heights are among the iconic film scores whose music forms part of the album 1996, released in the same year. Sakamoto’s work reflects an eclectic range of influences, from traditional Japanese music to the compositions of classical masters such as Bach, Debussy, and Schumann.
The concert also includes original works by composer, arranger, and project mentor João Vasco, featured on his album 2016, created as a tribute to Sakamoto and presented on an international tour between 2019 and 2023 across countries on four continents.
